We believe that our Island status gives us a head start when dealing with invasive species. Although we will never eliminate the risk of contamination from outside our boundary is well defined and small enough to be manageable. Ideally we would like to see Rhododendron Ponticum, Japanese Knotweed and American Mink banished from Seil.
Seil has so far escaped mass breakouts of this plant which can very quickly establish and crowd out native flora but there are signs that it is on the increase. We will remove it whenever invited by land owners.
We are seeking to identify and negotiate with landowners to have this highly destructive plant removed wherever it appears.
We are actively trapping Mink, with the landowners permission, on Seil. We welcome reports of sightings and use live traps aid humane destruction and to avoid damage to non target species.
